International conference on Communication, Education and new Literacies

The International Conference on communication, Education and New Literacy organized by the Gabinete de Comunicación y Educación from 11 to 13 of May 2011 is a space of debate, reflection and analyses of initiatives, projects, research, experiences and tendencies on Media Literacy in the world.  The Conference will take place in the Autonomous University of Barcelona The aims of the Conference are:
  • To show research projects, research groups and experiences.
  • To stimulate debate and reflexion  about media and digital literacy
  • To establish specific research lines
  • To empower content production initiatives, specially audiovisual and multimedia materials, about media and digital literacy. 
  • To design and promote projects for cooperation and dissemination of knowledge among different regions and areas in the European and Latin-American landscape.
  • To spread successful media and digital literacy experiences and initiatives empowering dissemination and application in different contexts.
  •  potenciar su difusión y aplicación en diferentes contextos.
  • To create international networks about media and digital literacy.

The Congress is aimed at professionals, researchers, teachers, educators, and all agencies involved with media education, educational technology and cooperation, universities and research groups, governmental projects and educational institutions, NGO sector, etc.


Communications and presentations must be submitted in Spanish, Portuguese or English.

Communications *       The first parameter to the approval of communications will be the order of arrival. *       The deadline for receipt of submissions is December 15 to March 26, 2011. *       The communications selected by the Committee of Congress will be published in a digital book of the Congress (ISBN provided.) 

Acceptance and registration 
*       The proper and complete registration procedure must be completed in order to be accepted and to publish your communication. *       The Congress registration must be made before April 8, 2011.  *       Authors should follow established rules for the development and delivery of communications. 
Features and format Communications 

*    Author's name *    E-mail. *    Workplace. *     Profile of the author or occupation (1 line). *    This information appears right aligned in lowercase Arial 10. 

Subject and Keywords 

*    The communication summary must be approximately of 500 characters. *    Between two and five key words in Arial12, bold, separated by commas. Example of keywords: literacy, education, multiculturalism.*    Both -Abstract and Keywords- must be submitted in Spanish and English. *    Communications will have an extension of approximately 7 to 15 pages (including tables, graphs or other visual aids).

Font Specifications: 

*        General title: Arial16, bold and in capital letters. *       Arial12 for text. *       Arial12 and bold for titles. *       Arial10 for footnotes. *       Arial 10 for direct quotations which exceed three lines in length in the main text. *       Simple Interlineal space.*        All texts must appear with justified alignment. 


References must be at the end of the article. All references are quoted indicating the Chicago system (Author, Date, Page). The guidelines for quoting are:

Pictures, summaries, etc. must be enumerated in arabic numerals and should make explicit references to them in the text. They can be inserted into the text or may be presented in an appendix at the end of the article. 

Illustrations Photo 

Photographs must contain the name of the author and / or source from which the image was extracted. The text should explicitly refer to them and can be added in the text or at the end of the document. 

Charts and maps 

The graphics and maps must be submitted with the title, legend and sources. The text should make explicit reference to the graphs and maps reproduced.
