Communication and Education Research Group will lead 12 projects on communication, education and intercultural dialogue in 2012

Communication and Education Research Group of Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) will lead 12 projects in 2012. These projects are related with areas as communication, education and intercultural dialogue and will be the central focuses of the work that will made the Research Group. At the same time there will be the beginning of the development of other projects.     

At January, the Research Group worked in the presentation of UNESCO- UNAOC MILID UNITWIN Global Chair. The Chair is about Media and Information Literacy and Intercultural Dialogue. At the Chair participates eight universities of all continents: Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), El Cairo University (Egypt), University of the West Indies (Jamaica), São Paulo University (Brazil), Temple University (USA), Tsinghua University (China), Queensland University of Technology (Australia) and Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University (Morocco).

At February will be implemented Media Education, a TV program for Latin American addresses of media education. In March will be the turn of the publications. The Research Group will participate at the edition of an issue of Comunicar Magazine and  the Yearbook of Mentor Association, a partner association that works on Media Education. The publications  addresses topics as Media Education Curriculum of UNESCO and it will analyzes the “edu- communication” skills.

At April and May will be develop new activities related to the Chair. In April will take place MILID Journal, the scientific magazine of the UNESCO- UNAOC MILID UNITWIN Global Chair. In May, will take place MILID- WEEK Barcelona 2012. It will be a week of global reflection about Media and Information Literacy, with the participation of more than 300 persons between experts, professionals, researches and professors.  


Second Semester: Emphasis on Education
During the second part of the year, the emphasis of the work will be on Education. In June the “Escuela Global de Alfabetización Mediática e Informativa” will open  its doors for everyone. It will address to teach the teachers of multimedia centres and telecentres.  

In July, and then again in the context of the Chair, the Research Group will launch the PhD international Programme, an initiative share with more than 10 universities all over the world. In September will take place the Tahina Can Expedition at the North of Africa. This is the eighth expedition. The activity is address to foster the interest of university community in the culture, traditions of Latin American countries and for the first time will go to the African continent.   

In October will be launch the doctoral School.  In it more than 30 young PhD of all over the world will participate.  In November will publish the first results of EMEDUS and DINAMIC. EMEDUS, “European Media Literacy Education Study”  intends to perform a comparative analysis of the consideration of Media Education at the national curriculums of 27 countries of European Union.çDINAMIC, “Development of Indicators on Individual, Corporative and Citizens  Media Literacy”, it’s main objective is  design a system of indicators in Media Literacy for persons, companies, corporative and groups. 

Finally, in December will be the moment of the celebrations because Communications and Education Master, organized by the Research Group, turns 20 and the Travel Journalist Master will finish its first year of activities.
